Welcome to the Santa Cruz Mountains
The Mountain Resource Group is a non-profit organization based in the Santa Cruz Mountains of Northern California.
Our objective is to provide an online source of high-quality information about natural resources and community infrastructure in our semi-rural region. These include: land, watershed, forest, streams, wildlife, plants, open space, private roads and water systems, emergency water sources and evacuation routes, recreational trails and historical sites.
Our mission is to support local residents, community groups and emergency responders, in order to promote public safety, environmental awareness, responsible stewardship and informed and fair decision-making about our local resources. (more)
As individuals and as a community, we face unique challenges and responsibilities. We also share good fortune in being able to live in such a beautiful place. We'd like to help keep it that way for generations to come.

Try viewing the Google Earth annotated model of the original San Jose Water Company logging proposal. We've also created a movie version of the original flyover, that you can play with a single click.
The flyover has been featured in an excellent article,
"GREEN Eyes in the Sky: desktop satellite tools are changing the way environmentalists work",
by environmental reporter Gregory Dicum, in the online edition of the San Francisco Chronicle.
We are currently building this "Community GeoPortal" for the Santa Cruz Mountains: a non-commercial site which provides access to local maps, information and community discussion. Please give it a try, and let us know what you think.
